Chain Link Fence Installation Surrey
When people look at a chain link fence, memories of playing sports and of grade school probably come to mind. Chain link fences are definitely one of the most economical ways to install a fence with some sort of security aspect to it. The original purpose of chain link fences were utilitarian and meant for industrial and commercial settings. However, with modern treatment options, they can also be set-up in residential settings without looking like an eyesore. Over the years, there have been new variances of the name to come up but all of them generally mean the same thing: wire netting, diamond mesh fence, chain wire fence, wire mesh fence, etc. When comparing a chain link fence to a wood fence, there are some big differences between the two. We list out some of the benefits and disadvantages below. Benefits - Chain link fences are relatively the cheapest type of fencing material. When working on larger commercial or industrial projects, distances can add up pretty quick and having a reliable, economic option is needed. Being durable and affordable is one of the key reasons why chain link fences are so popular and in demand. - Versatility: Chain link fences are great as they can be installed across different settings. The gauge of the fence, which refers to the thickness of the wire, can also be adjusted if required for your project. The gauge of your chain link fence also determines how much galvanized steel is contained within the fabric. The most common gauges are 6, 9, 11, and 11.5 gauge. 9 gauge is the most common fence type you'll see for most residential and commercial chain link fences. The smaller the gauge number is, the more steel is included which results in a more secure fence. If you are looking at a project where security is the top priority, a 6 gauge may be the best option for you. - Similar to sealing your wood fences, you can coat you chain link fence to add durability and make it resistant to rust. The majority of chain link fences are galvanized to achieve this effect but you can add an additional coating of vinyl for extra protection. - Design options are limited with chain link fences but if you opt for vinyl coating, you will have a few colour options. Some common vinyl coating colours are: black, white, green, and brown. While the change can be subtle, a colour change could be just the thing the ties a chain link fence into the rest of your landscape. Disadvantages - When it comes to chain link fences, the biggest issue comes down to personal preference. These fences are definitely not the pretties thing to look at. When compared to other types of fencing, it can be seen as the least attractive option. If you don't mind the look, chain link fences can be the best bang for your buck. - Another disadvantage of a chain link fence is that you basically give up privacy when installing this type of fence. It's an excellent fence for some air to flow through but there is nothing stopping someone from looking in. If you are wanting privacy for a specific area, we would definitely stay away from a chain link fence. |
